Lumieres Awards. What better way to congratulate all our students then to organise a big celabration in their honour. On their first ever award Ceremony which took place on the 7th June 2014, Joanne Storrs (Principal) was quoted saying "this was the best event we have ever had to date, it was amazing". The students did a performance before enjoying a three course meal. They receive trophies and medals for all their hard work through the last year. To mark the occasion we had another surprise for the students and gave them their exams certificates, which were presented to them in a lovely frame, it was magical to see their faces, they had so much fun with all their new friends. When we finished the presentation we went on to have disco were all the moms and dads had a boogie it was definately a night to remember. Second Awards We had lots of new students this year as we had moved to Huddersfield. It was a magical night, we had a face painter which all the children enjoyed young and old, I seem to remember a few parents getting involved with that as well, which was great to see. We had a magician who was a great find, he went around all the tables and entertained both students and parents with his illusions, they we amazed. The highlight of the evening was the children doing a little entertainment for their parents followed by the wards been given out to all the students for their hard work thought the year, as you can see from the pictures taken the night was enjoyed by all. Quotes from Some of our Parent! Lynn Cartwright said "I would just like to say what a wonderful evening myself and my family had last night at your Award Ceremony at Bertie's Banqueting Suite in Elland. The evening was highly entertaining with all the students participating his a number of performances which gave us parents a look at what our children have achieved being part of your academy. The meal was lovely and we enjoyed watching the awards presentations in between the courses. Ending with a disco for both adults and children truly rounded a fantastic evening. The venue was very elegant and the friendly atmosphere was great. Looking forward to the next Award Ceremony". The children’s parents also joined in the fun, quoting “It was a wonderful touch to have my son, Joseph, hand out flowers to the ladies in the audience as he sung his song”, (Shelley Simpson), “I’ve never seen Daniel enjoy himself so much” (Julie Wilson), “It was an amazing evening”, (Sonja Stansfield) “The academy is heading in the right direction,” added Joanne, “as we are now starting to create more opportunities for our students. At the moment, Lumieres has just begun an original project, which will see our students performing at a theatre Huddersfield in December of this year and hopefully take a small piece of that production to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival”.
